Triangles are everywhere in bridge construction!

Brent Spence Bridge

Your mission…act as the fabricator for this bridge. Brent Spence Bridge Your mission…act as the fabricator for this bridge.

What is a fabricator?? Fabricator = produces each piece for the bridge Engineer = Design ??? There is a step in between Contractor = Builds

You will… You will need… Get into groups of no more than 2 Use your geometry skills to perform the job of a fabricator Build a model of the Brent Spence Bridge You will need… A project packet Calculator Pencil (no pens please) Graph paper or plain white paper (you choose)

Each group will be responsible for a section of the bridge.

There are 4 parts to your task Find all of the angles and lengths of the members in your section Scale down the measurements in your section Draw your section to scale (use the dimensions that you found in Step 2) Build your section of the model

Remember that the sections all have to fit together!! Finally, Section 1 Section 2 Section 3 Section 4 Remember that the sections all have to fit together!! Section 5 Section 6 Section 7 Section 8

Day 1 Find all of the angles and lengths of the members in your section Answer the follow-up questions Day 2 Scale down the measurements in your section Draw your section to scale (use the dimensions that you found in the previous step) Day 3 Build your section of the model Put all of the sections together

Building Code for Sections 2, 3, 6, & 7

Where to connect the two sides with the angle bracket…
