Welcome to Year 4 – Spring Term Mrs Jacobs & Mrs Partridge-Underwood Maths: We start the Spring Term by securing our knowledge of multiplication and division – followed by extending our knowledge of measurement to include area. By half term our focus will be on fractions, concluding the term with work on decimals. I will set Mathletics according to the topic we are studying. Initially, this may appear challenging but should become easier as we progress through the syllabus. As usual, please endeavour to help your child with their times tables facts as often as possible. Welcome to Year 4 – Spring Term Mayans & Aztecs Mrs Jacobs & Mrs Partridge-Underwood Literacy: We are continuing with our Talk 4 Writing scheme and will be looking at the features of a diary entry, how to write a report and moving on to analysing styles of poetry. Spellings will be given out each Friday, with a test the following Thursday. Please do not use the spelling book to practise. There may be additional tests, featuring common words which are frequently misspelt, so children need to ensure they practice those words which I highlight in their literacy books. Topic: This term we will be investigating the Mayans and Aztecs. Our research will include a timeline of their civilisations, reasons and enquiry into the success and demise of the cultures and include a trip to Cadbury World. Science: Science continues to be taught by Mrs Lymn. The topic for this term will be to investigate sound. ICT: Last term we looked at a programme called Scratch, which involved trying to programme a sprite to move. We will be continuing to develop techniques to make our programmes more accurate. P.E: P.E. will take place on Wednesday afternoons with Mr Perry (netball) and Friday afternoons with the tennis coach. It may be advisable to provide your child with a pair of tracksuit bottoms as the weather will be cold. Art: Following traditional Aztec designs, we will be designing warrior masks using a mosaic technique
