Welcome to Mr. MCCaskie’s Classroom Room 210 Please find your seat Please begin working on your “I am…” paper located on your desk The purpose of this assignment is for me to get to know you and for you all to get to know each other I left a copy of my “I am…” paper on each desk, which can be used as a reference

Welcome to Physics/Chemistry! “If you are not willing to learn, no one can help you. If you are determined to learn, no one can stop you.” -- Zig Ziglar

A Little about me…

Classroom Procedures Mr. McCaskie Room 210 Summit Academy High School

When coming into class… Be on time Enter the classroom quietly Have your calculator and binder readily accessible (preferably on your desk) Sharpen your pencil BEFORE class Go directly to your assigned seat Copy the homework assignment into your agenda Begin working on your “bell-ringer” assignment

During Class… Listen and pay attention at all times. Raise your hand to ask questions, sharpen your pencil, etc. Take copious notes! (If I am writing, you should be too…) All “bell-ringers,” assignments, tests, quizzes, etc. should be done in pencil. No side conversations during instruction. PARTICIPATE!

Keeping your binder… You will keep a 2 ½” or 3” binder in class. Each class will have a different section of the bookshelf dedicated to each class’s binders. The outside cover and the spine of your binder will have your name and class section number on them. Each section inside your binder will be divided to maintain organization.

Homework assignments… You will have them. Expect it! You will usually have time at the end of class to begin homework assignments. Always put your name, date, and class period on each assignment. Complete homework in PENCIL! Homework will be collected and checked the next class period.

Before leaving class… ONE table at a time will put their binders back on the shelf. NO BINDERS WILL BE LEFT ON ANY DESKS! I WILL DISMISS YOU, NOT THE BELL. Pick up and dispose of any garbage around your desk, even if it is not yours. We are all a team in this classroom. Exit calmly and quietly when prompted.

Tardiness policy… Tardiness is unacceptable. Tardiness will ONLY be excused with a note from your previous teacher. If you don’t have a note from your teacher you will be marked tardy. 1st Tardy = you will receive a warning 2nd Tardy = I will call home 3rd Tardy = you will receive a referral

If you are absent… See me the day you return to school for an OVERVIEW of what you missed. Ask classmates for notes and assignments. Missed assignments will be due within 2 class periods. If you miss a test, you must schedule an appointment time that is mutually plausible for the both of us. IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO COME TO ME AFTER AN ABSENCE. I WILL NOT TRACK YOU DOWN!

Mr. McCaskie’s Class rules BE RESPECTFUL BE PATIENT BE ON TASK BE PREPARED BE ON TIME

Consequences… I expect you to follow the classroom procedures at all times. Failure to do so will result in: Verbal warning  Student conference  Detention/ Parent contract  Referral to administration NOTE: a severe interruption will result in you being sent to the office immediately!

Substitute procedures If I am absent from school, I expect you to give the substitute teacher the same respect you give me. All rules and procedures will be followed every day, regardless of who is up front. If your name is given to me by the substitute teacher for any negative reason, you will receive a referral, a detention, and I will call home. The number one rule in the classroom is to be respectful. This does NOT change when I am not here.

How you will be graded… Grading Policy Grading Scale Tests – 50% QOD’s – 10% Labs – 10% Homework Packets – 20% Class Participation – 10% 90 – 100% = A 80 – 89.99% = B 70 – 79.99% = C 60 – 69.99% = D 0 – 59.99% = F

Emergency Drills… Lock Downs Fire Drill Calmly move to the front left corner of the room. ABSOLUTELY NO TALKING! Fire Drill Calmly walk in a straight line down the hallway toward the front stairs, down the stairs and into the main parking lot. DO NOT RUN! Leave your belongings, I will lock the door. Do not re-enter the building until instructed to do so.

Remember… “If you are not willing to learn, no one can help you. If you are determined to learn, no one can stop you.” I know you are going to have an amazing year! Work hard and I promise it WILL pay off!
