TH!NK TANK HEALTH HEALTHY ME! INITIATIVE PRESENTS HEALTH, NUTRITION AND PRODUCTIVITY IN THE WORKPLACE

HEALTHY ME! IS AN INFORMATION INITIATIVE WHICH AIMS TO “ TEACH THE PEOPLE THAT IT IS BETTER TO KNOW HOW TO STAY WELL THAN HOW TO CURE DISEASES” -ELLEN WHITE

GOOD HEALTH BEGINS WITH KNOWLEDGE GOOD HEALTH BEGINS WITH KNOWLEDGE! WE MUST ENLIGHTEN OURSELVES BECAUSE DISEASE IS: UN- NATURAL A FORM OF DISTRACTION PAIN AND DISCOMFORT A WASTE OF TIME, MONEY, POTENTIAL AND LIVES UNPRODUCTIVE & COSTS SME BUSINESS AND THE NIGERIAN ECONOMY BILLIONS IN LOST REVENUE

HEALTHY ME! AIMS TO CORRECT AND INFORM ON COMMON MISTAKES AND ASSUMPTIONS PEOPLE MAKE ABOUT HEALTH !

“OUR BELIEF SYSTEM MUST CHANGE IT MUST BE CONTINOUSLY INFORMED” THE BELIEF THAT… “THERE IS NOTHING WE CAN DO TO PREVENT OR REVERSE LIFESTYLE DISEASES” “WE MUST DEVELOP DISEASES WITH AGE” “ORTHODOX OR ALTERNATIVE MEDICINE CAN ADDRESS ALL DISEASES” “THERE IS A DRUG FOR EVERY DISEASE” “THE CURE IS ALWAYS ABROAD” “WE NEED CUTTING-EDGE MEDICAL TECHNOLOGY TO ENJOY A QUALITY LONG LIFE”

IF NIGERIAN’S ASPIRE TO THE STANDARD AMERICAN/WESTERN DIET &CULTURE WE NEED TO BE AWARE OF AMERICAN LIFESTYLE HEALTH FACTS:

HEALTHY ME! CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASE AFFECTS 80% OF ALL AMERICAN CITIZENS 33% OF ALL CITIZENS DEVELOP CANCER… IT WAS PROJECTED TO REACH 50% BY THE YEAR 2000 6.5 MILLION US CITIZENS SUFFER FROM DIABETES 77% OF THE ADULT POPULATION SUFFERS FROM ATHRITIC AND RHEUMATIC DISORDERS OVER 50% SUFFER CHRONIC DIGESTIVE DISORDER 80 MILLION SUFFER FROM ALLERGIES 70-80% ARE OVERWEIGHT AND 80MILLIONN ARE CLASSIFIED AS OBESE

HEALTHY ME! “LET THY FOOD BE THY MEDICINE AND THY KITCHEN BE THY CLINIC” EVERY 35 DAYS YOUR SKIN REPLACES ITSELF AND YOUR BODY MAKES NEW CELLS FROM THE FOOD YOU EAT “WE LITERALLY BECOME WHAT WE EAT”AT

SO WHAT DO WE DO ABOUT OUR HEALTH?

HEALTHY ME! Food and Lifestyle Initiative, Helping Nigerians to; Look Better! Feel Better! Live Longer! By What We Eat And How We Prepare Our Food

“EVERYTIME WE EAT OR DRINK, WE ARE EITHER CURING OURSELVES OR “EVERYTIME WE EAT OR DRINK, WE ARE EITHER CURING OURSELVES OR POISONING OURSELVES” The Nutrients in our food is the medicine our body needs to be healthy so as to cure diseases naturally. An average family in Nigeria loses up to 95% nutrient value, hence the medicine in their food, due to our food purchase choice and the methods of food preparation. Healthy Me Initiative helps to retain 93% nutrient in your food, thereby turning your food to your medicine and your kitchen to your clinic.

Rate of Lifestyle Diseases in Nigeria High Blood pressure- 34% of adults below the age of 50 live with HBP. (Nigeria has the highest rate in Africa). Diabetes- 4 million Nigerians live with Diabetes ( 70-80% cases undiagnosed) Cancer- over 100,000 Nigerians die annually( on the average, 240 Nigerians every day from cancer) Obesity- prevalence of 20.3%-35.1% of Nigerians are overweight, 8.1%-22.2% are obesed.

SO THESE ARE YOUR ENEMIES TO NUTRITION… If You Change The Following Lifestyle Actions, You Will; LOOK YOUNGER! FEEL BETTER! LIVE LONGER!

DO NOT PEEL Plants that are grown underground the nutrients reside under the skin. Peeling causes the loss of the nutrients derived from the food. It is advisable to wash the plant product properly without peeling.

COOKING IN WATER Using water to prepare food has its own short comings as the use of water causes loss of nutrients and minerals. As far as vegetables are concerned, cooking them in water robs them of some of their nutritional values because the nutrients and essential constituents leach out into the water. When you lose colors, vitamins have been lost and when you lose flavor, minerals have been lost

HIGH HEAT Cooking with high heat is one of the enemies to nutrition as nutrients are destroyed when heated above 90° Celsius. Food should be cooked with low heat, ideally below 90°Celsius to ensure that the nutrients remain intact and are not destroyed

FAT AND OIL Fats and Oil make our food 7-8times harder to digest. When foods are fried with oil, they are wrapped in an oil bag, making it difficult to digest and thereby getting stored up in various organs of the body, like the liver, heart and arteries.

OXIDATION Nutrients are usually more sensitive and reactive when exposed to air, heat and light. Oxidation of food is the breakdown of that food in the presence of air and light. The longer the exposure of your food to air and light, the lesser the vitamins and nutrients contained.
