All his house Acts 16:27-34

Household conversion Cornelius (Acts 10,11) Acts 10:2 - “a devout man who feared God with all his house …” Acts 11:14 - “who shall speak unto thee words, whereby thou shalt be saved, thou and all thy house.”

Household conversion Lydia (Acts 16:11-15) Acts 16:15 – “And when she was baptized, and her household, she besought us, saying …”

Household conversion The Jailor – (Acts 16:31-34) Verse 31 - “And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus and thou shalt be saved, thou and thy house.” Verse 32 - “And they spake the word of the Lord unto him, with all that were in his house.”

Household conversion The Jailor – (continued) Verse 33 – “And he took them the same hour of the night, and washed their stripes; and was baptized, he and all his, immediately.” Verse 34 - “And he brought them up into his house, and set food before them, and rejoiced greatly, with all his house, having believed in God.”

Infant baptism Original Sin Practiced among many denominations Stems from a false idea of original sin Romans 5:12 – “through one man sin entered into the world …”

Infant baptism Original Sin “Adam’s Sin brought devastating consequences: death and the upset of the harmonious balance between God, man, and creation. In addition, the will of man is forever weakened by the first sin. Original sin, the loss of original justice and holiness, impacted the progeny of Adam and Eve through weakness of will. Man no longer harbors original justice and holiness and instead is drawn toward evil and selfish pleasures. We call this weakness of the will concupiscence. The continuing temptations of Satan and the loss of the gifts of original holiness and justice marred the soul of Adam, and as he is the head of the human race all of his descendants were likewise convicted. The stain of original sin is inherited by all humans at the moment of conception and brings its effects of ignorance, concupiscence, death and suffering.” St. Thomas Aquinas Forum. The Doctrine of Original Sin. 04 AUG 2018 <http://www.saintaquinas.com/original_sin.html>

Infant baptism "Every child who is born is a gift of joy and of hope, and every child who is baptized is a miracle of the faith and a feast for the family of God.” - Pope Francis - Angelus Address 1-12-2014 St. Mary’s Catholic Church. The Roman Catholic Archbishop of Los Angeles, a corp. 04 AUG 2018 < https://saintmarys- ave.org/es/sacraments/>

Infant baptism “We Presbyterians emphasize the covenant aspect of baptism. When we baptize infants we emphasize God’s gracious movement toward human beings, connected to us, through Jesus Christ by the power of the Holy Spirit.” Presbyterian Church (USA). 2018 Presbyterian Mission Agency. 04 AUG 2018 <https://www.presbyterianmission.org/story/0117- wpb/>

God’s concept of accountability Ezekiel 18:20 - “The soul that sinneth, it shall die: the son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son; the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him.”

Household of the jailor They were taught (Acts 16:32) Jailor by singing (verse 25) “But about midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns unto God, and the prisoners were listening to them …” Jailor and household by Paul and Silas (verse 32) “And they spake the word of the Lord unto him, with all that were in his house.”

Household of the jailor They were taught (continued) They were taught who to believe in (verse 31) “And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus, and thou shalt be saved, thou and thy house.”

Household of the jailor They responded (Acts 16:29-33) The jailor’s initial response (verses 29-30) “And he called for lights and sprang in, and, trembling for fear, fell down before Paul and Silas, and brought them out and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved?”

Household of the jailor They responded (continued) The jailor and his house (verse 33) “And he took them the same hour of the night, and washed their stripes; and was baptized, he and all his, immediately.”

Household of the jailor Conclusions They had to hear the word of God Romans 10:17 – “So belief cometh of hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ.”

Household of the jailor Conclusions (continued) They had the intelligence and maturity to understand what they heard Romans 10:14, “How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?”

Household of the jailor They had to believe it Acts 16:31, “And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus, and thou shalt be saved, thou and thy house.”

Household of the jailor They had to respond to it Acts 16:33, “And he took them the same hour of the night, and washed their stripes; and was baptized, he and all his, immediately.”

The process Heard the word of God (singing and formal teaching) Believed what they were taught Repented of their sins (washed stripes) Confession is inferred – Romans 10:9-10; 1 Corinthians 4:17 Baptism was administered to the jailor and all his, immediately.

Conversion today That process is the same today as back in NT times. The jailor came to a serious understanding of his condition before God Have you come to the same understanding? It’s time to obey, immediately!
