Story Literary Elements Some basics that every good story must have ….

2. The “TITLE” of every story helps readers to connect to the story. What does the title have to do with the story? What is the CONNECTION?

3. Every story needs characters People Animals And Each CHARACTER Plays a specific ROLE with Or Creatures Unique Emotions and Personalities

a. The protagonist is the “good guy” CHARACTERS: a. The protagonist is the “good guy”

CHARACTERS: b.The antagonist is the Bad guy or force

Types of Conflict External Conflict Man vs Man Man vs Nature Man vs Society Man vs himself Internal Conflict

4. Great stories have a CONFLICT or problem the characters face. Man vs. Man Man vs. Nature

Conflicts Man v. Society

Conflict Conflict is the dramatic struggle between two forces in a story. Without conflict, there is no plot.

5. The time and place of the story is the setting

Setting Time (date, season, specific time, whatever is relevant to the story) Place (where)

6. The SETTING helps to set the TONE or the MOOD of the story. Adventurous, excitement, Fear, tragedy, Heroism Exhileration, surprise, Shock; AWE

7. The climax is the most exciting part!!

Events of the story in the 8. The Plot is ALL the Events of the story in the order they occurred. Without a PLOT there Would NOT be a story!

Point-of-View Who is telling the story? 1st person (told from an “I” point-of-view) 3rd person limited (told from someone else’s point-of-view who only knows a lot about one or a few characters) 3rd person omnicient (told from someone else’s point-of-view who seems to know everything)

9. The point of view is the perspective of the story. “I was framed! I just wanted to borrow a cup of sugar!” “That rotten wolf tried to eat us!!!!”
