Attention to the News by Party Only a minority of Americans follow the news very closely. More Republicans closely follow the news than Democrats or independents.

Many don’t believe the media Many Americans say that they no longer believe the mainstream media.

Trust in Media by Party Most Republicans distrust the media.

Partisan Media Republicans and Democrats live in different media universes, watching, reading, and listening to media outlets that reinforce their views.

Democratic Viewing Habits Democrats and Republicans get their news from different sources.

Republican Viewing Habits

Independent Viewing Habits In contrast to Democrats and Republicans, independents don’t spend lots of time watching news channels.

News Sources Reinforce Biases

Slant of Media Sources

Republicans & Democrats Live in Different Worlds Barack Obama is the worst president ever and deserves to be impeached. He is a dictator in domestic policy but weak in dealing with other nations. His economic policies are bankrupting the country and destroying the nation’s economy. Republicans in Congress are determined to keep President Obama from succeeding, even opposing ideas that they once embraced just because Obama supports them. They are willing to crash the economy to spite the president. And you know what--they are crazy.

What You Have Learned How has trust in the news media changed over the last decade? Are Republicans or Democrats more trusting of the media? Which news outlets do most Republicans trust more? Which do Democrats trust more? Which news outlets do Republicans utilize? Which are the most popular news outlets for Democrats?
