Creative Clock Activity

Creative Clock Instructions   Your activity will be to create mathematical expressions, symbols, and/or representations that result in the sequence of numbers on an analog clock, resulting in a mathematical clock. The completed clock should be one that motivated the inventor to think outside of the box and consider mathematical items that challenged the limits of their potential worthy of the Benjamin Banneker name. The creative clock will be graded on the four major attributes below: Grade level Content- should be on or exceed current grade level Innovative thinking Multiple Math Problem types – Expression, graph, equation, diagram, table, math symbols, etc. Overall Presentational Look – it should be presented in a creative manner

Creative Clock Rubric 1 2 3 4 Attribute Content Below grade level Surface level of Mathematical Representations On-grade level Mathematical Representations Within grade Level with Representations at the Higher Levels Innovative Thinking No Innovation Simple and direct Creativity expressed on clock representations Innovative design is extensive and significantly creative Multiple Math Problem Types X= 1 only one type of math problem types included 1 < X ≥ 2 There are more than one up to at least 2 math problem types included 2 < X ≥ 5 There are more than two up to at least 5 math problem types included 5 < X ≥ 12 There are more than 5 up to 12 math problem types included Overall Presentation Look Plain Moderate Elaborate
