Breeding Bunnies Lab

Background Information Read the info and highlight/underline the trait that we are studying. Does this trait provide high fitness or low fitness to the bunnies? Explain. Low fitness Bunnies die in the cold winter

Rabbits without and with fur H = normal fur h = furless hh HH or Hh

Hypothesis #1 – Breeding Bunnies If natural selection has a (positive) / (negative) effect on the fitness of bunnies with (fur) / (no fur), then (what will happen to the population over time??).

Hypothesis #2 – Breeding Bunnies What will happen to the frequency (%) of H alleles and h alleles in the bunny population? State your hypothesis. (hint: it starts out 50/50)

Sample Data Calculations Gene frequency = # of alleles total alleles Gen. # HH bunnies # Hh bunnies # hh bunnies # H alleles (black beans) # h alleles (white beans) Total alleles Gene freq of H Gene freq of h 1 13 24 50 100 0.50 2 18 14 5 74 0.68 0.32 3 19 12 64 0.78 0.22 Continue for each generation
