Absences and Tardies: You must turn in a note with your student stating reason(s) why they were absent. Students are tardy if they enter the building after 7:45. Please make sure they are arriving on time in order to complete all morning work assignments.
Other News: If you would like to bring in treats for your student’s birthday, we request that this be done during their lunch time. * Please keep in mind that we have several students with allergies to nuts. Please read nutrition labels before purchasing sweet treats! If your child’s transportation changes for the afternoon, please notify the front office AND the teacher. The front office will send down transportation notes to us in the afternoon. *You must notify the front office. Students do not go out to recess on their PE day. Please make sure students are wearing appropriate gym shoes on their PE day!
Classroom Management Great Day: I did something exceptional without being told or asked. Good Day: I followed rules 1-5 and didn’t have any problems. Okay Day: I didn’t follow one of the rules today and had to be warned by a teacher. Consequence Day: I didn’t follow one or more of the rules today resulting in a consequence.
SUPER IMPROVERS WALL Each child starts at the ROOKIE stage and they work their way up the ten levels to the LIVING LEGEND stage. Students earn stickers for improving behaviors and academic efforts. A student must fill up their card with 10 stickers in order to advance to the next level. The sticker cards will be sent home as they advance through the levels. It is anticipated that students SHOULD reach the LIVING LEGEND level by the end of the year.

Make-Up or Missing Work Policy Students will have the same number of days to make up work as the number of days they were absent. If students are missing work, it will be expected for them to make it up at home or they will receive no credit. This will be reflected on your child’s interim and report card.

Volunteers Volunteers are required to renew their application/background check each year. This must be completed online at www.gcsnc.com under parents and students. Expectations of Academics Our goal for students is to provide them with opportunities to apply what they learn in class to real world situations. As your child’s teacher we will provide them with a text rich environment in a variety of learning settings.
Grading and Standards Expectations: Students are scored on a level 1-4 on their report cards for Reading, Math, and Writing. It is expected for your child to be at a level 3 to be considered on grade level. 1: Below grade level expectations with support 2: Needs support to meet grade level expectations 3: Consistently meets grade level expectations 4: Consistently exceeds grade level expectations Students will receive an S, I, N, U for Science and Social Studies. The expectation is for them to complete all work at a Satisfactory level.
