文天祥

文天祥 文天祥（1236—1283）was a famous hero in Chinese history. He was the prime minister of Southern Song Dynasty. At his time, the emperor was a little boy and other senior officials only cared about themselves. When attacked by Mongolians, most people wanted to surrender but Wen Tianxiang. He organized an army and fought till the last moment. After the Southern Song was taken over by Mongolians’ Yuan Dynasty, being impressed by Wen’s talents and loyalty, the Yuan Emperor tried to make him work for the new government. No matter being threatened by death, or lured by the position of prime minister in the new government, he insisted not to surrender and told the Yuan emperor: “All I want now is to die, if I can’t serve my old country.” The emperor had to kill him Right before he was killed, he asked which direction was south (where the old capital was). After kowtowed to south, he died peacefully without any sorrow.
