Welcome Year 6 Mrs Hinds (Miss Bailey)

The final year of primary school! Increased responsibility and independence Respect and resilience! SATs Residential End of year productions Transition to the high school

Medication / illnesses Please let me know in September if your children have any medical needs. Mrs Kitson is in charge of administering medicines (prescribed only). All inhalers and other medication will need to be in date ready for the new academic year. Please inform me of any changes which may affect your child’s learning or well being.

Children’s Progress Your child will have termly targets which they need to work on in school and at home. There will be regular assessments throughout the year to check progress. If we as a school have any concerns we will either speak to you after school or make a more in depth appointment as needed. Intervention support groups may also be put in place throughout the school to support children where needed. Parents/carers will be informed.

New SATs The Year 6 class will sit the new style of SATs papers. These tests reflect the new National Curriculum (2014) and they are more rigorous than the old tests. There is a new marking scheme to replace the National Curriculum levels. Pupils will receive a raw score, scaled score and confirmation of whether they attained the national standard. Scaled score = 100 will reflect the national standard. The children will complete several tests: Reading, Maths and SPAG. Teacher assessments will be submitted to the high schools as well as test outcomes.

Homework Reading By Year 6, pupils should be reading independently at home. However, if pupils are not reading at home, they must be encouraged to do so. At least 15 minutes per day is a good guide. Numeracy and Literacy homework A short task will be given to reinforce work done in class. Homework will be given out on a Friday and collected in on Wednesday. Spellings Given on a Friday to be tested the following Friday. Children will be grouped according to their abilities.

Thank you for coming!
