1. Explain why the Battle of Fallen Timbers was significant for the United States? (pages 198-199) – Focus on what the Treaty of Greenville did (page 199) Answer: The Battle of Fallen Timbers was a victory for the United States which forced Native Americans to accept the United States peace terms. The Treaty of Greenville, Native American leaders ceded, gave, most of the present state of Ohio to the US government; they also opened the Northwest Territory to settlement.

2. Who won the presidential election of 1796? Who became Vice-President? (page 202) Answer: President – Thomas Jefferson; Vice President John Adams

3. Alien and Sedition Acts (page 202) Alien Act: (202) Authorized the President to arrest and deport immigrants who criticized the federal government. Sedition Act: (202) Crime for citizens to publicly discredit the federal government
