The Feudal System Duties owed to others Basic idea is control of land Unit of land is the Manor Social class determined by birth No social mobility Monarch controlled all the land in the kingdom Knights provided military service to the lords in exchange for land Serfs produced food and labor for the manor; not free to leave Monarchs could divide land among many lords; each lord had their own knights who were loyal to them.

The Feudal System Manorialism: ( Manorial System) economic system of Feudalism Based on the unit of land, the manor Land based, agrarian economy Manors were self-sufficient (villages: villein-peasants) Manors were divided into units for individual families Lord of the manner was the authority People living on the manor worked the land and performed the labor required to run the manor
