What is the Gospel? Why is good news, good news? But I’m actually a pretty good person, right? What good does the Gospel do for me today?

What is the Gospel: 1 Corinthians 15:3-5 For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, and that he appeared (Peter, the Twelve, more than 500, James, all the apostles, and Paul)

Lots of other people in the Bible also died and were raised to life. Widow of Zarephath's son (I Ki 17:17-24) Shunamite's son (II Ki 4:20-37) Man tossed into Elisha's tomb (II Ki 13:21) Widow of Nain's son (Lk 7:11-16) Synagogue ruler Jairus' 12-year-old daughter (Mk 5:35-43) Lazarus (Jn 11:1-44) Tabitha also known as Dorcas (Acts 9:36-41) Eutychus (Acts 20:7-12) Men raised upon Jesus' death (Mt 27:51-53)

Why is good news, good news? Good News is not good news unless there is a problem first that needs to be solved – A reason why good news is needed.

Why do people not accept the Gospel? Have not heard or don’t know the Gospel Don’t see a need for it. Not willing to make changes (repent) the Gospel requires Don’t believe it’s true “I’m good, no thanks.”

But I’m actually a pretty good person, right?

Are you boasting of your own self-righteousness and defending yourself before God? If so, then perhaps you have never been saved by God’s grace. It is only when we stand silent before Him as sinners that He can save us. As long as we defend ourselves and commend ourselves, we cannot be saved by God’s grace. Warren Wiersby

What good does the Gospel do for me today? Good News!! The rain is coming. The ride is here. The doctor will see you.

The Gospel comes from two words: Euangelion = Good News Euanelizo = to Bring Good News It is both good news and the bringing of good news. They go together.

What is the Gospel: John 3:16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. You are loved.

Good News Col. 1:14 In Him we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. You are forgiven

Good News Eph. 1:13 You also were included in Christ. You are accepted.

Good News Romans 5:1 We have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. God gives you peace.

Good News John 10:10 I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly. God gives you abundant life today.
