The Cornell Method STEP 1 Note Basics STEP 2 Note Taking Use the proper format & be consistent Use the CM template (copies or notebook paper) Abbreviate words & use symbols Use bullets/lists Color-code Skip lines between big ideas Record basic info Name Date Block Assignment # Topic Essential Questions/Objectives Record Main Ideas (indicated by me in at the top of each ppt slide) Group or “chunk” sections of notes can be main ideas, segments of each main idea, or every new ppt slide Do not copy EVERYTHING! Learn to read & listen, then analyze information Determine what to keep, leave out, substitute, or paraphrase Record questions for – at least – each “chunk” (add questions as needed)
