Presentation transcript:

Line A mark that connects two points. Curved, zig zag, thick, thin, straight, spotted/dotted This was a term from last semester, what can you remember about it? We use line a lot in art but it is a little hard to define. Think of it in math terms, what do you call a line in math? We define line as a mark that connects two points. It can be curved, zig zag, dotted, thick, thin, or straight.

Shape Space that has been enclosed by line. 2 dimensional Organic Geometric Is always 2-dimensional Organic shapes are shapes found in nature leaves, lizards, rocks, formations Geometric shapes are the shapes we all know: square, circle, triangle, rectangle, hexagon

Form 3-Dimensional shape Volume (height, width, depth) Think Cube, cylinder, sphere! Can be free flowing

Color Reflection of light (what would you define it as?) Hue Value intensity Color is what we see when light hits an object and is reflected back to the eye. An element of art made up of three properties: hue, value, and intensity. • Hue: name of color • Value: hue’s lightness and darkness (a color’s value changes when white or black is added) • Intensity: quality of brightness and purity (high intensity= color is strong and bright; low intensity= color is faint and dull)

Value The light and darkness as observed in nature White= lightest value Black= Darkest value Middle grey= in between value

Texture The way something feels or appears to feel like The feel of an object Implied texture= showing texture

Space Positive Negative Implied depth Abstract Depth/ distance When we hear space we think openness right? Or outer space we think vastness, stars, objects spread out. How would we put a definition on that? What is it? Positive space is the space occupied by an object Negative space is the space surrounding the object

Vocabulary Terms  Line Shape Form Color Value Texture Space
