The Distributive Property Lesson 1-5 The Distributive Property

Distributive Property-

Examples Rewrite using the Distributive Property. Then evaluate each step. 1. 5(7 + 2) 2. (16 – 7)3

Rewrite each product using the Distributive Property. Then simplify. 4. 4( y2 + 8y +2)

Definitions Term- A number, variable, or a product or a quotient of numbers and variables. Like terms- Terms that contain the same variables, with corresponding variables having the same power. Equivalent Expressions- when two expressions denote the same number. Ex. 5n + 7n = 12n Simplest Form- An expression that has been replaced by an equivalent expression having no like terms or parenthesis.

Simplify each expression. 5. 17a + 21a 6. 12b2 – 8b2 + 6b
