? ? Are You Ready ?

Theme of the New Testament Jesus is coming !

I Thessalonians 1: 9-10   For they themselves report about us what kind of a reception we had with you, and how you turned to God from idols to serve a living and true God, 10 and to wait for His Son from heaven, whom He raised from the dead, that is Jesus, who rescues us from the wrath to come.

I Thessalonians 2: 19 For who is our hope or joy or crown of exultation? Is it not even you, in the presence of our Lord Jesus at His coming?

I Thessalonians 3: 13 so that He may establish your hearts without blame in holiness before our God and Father at the coming of our Lord Jesus with all His saints.

Most detailed description of His return in all the scriptures. I Thessalonians 4: 13-18 Most detailed description of His return in all the scriptures.

I Thessalonians 5: 23 Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you entirely; and may your spirit and soul and body be preserved complete, without blame at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Therefore, it is altogether appropriate for us to reflect on the return of Christ.

The Lord’s Apostle said, Ignorance of what is coming is not acceptable. I Thessalonians 4: 13 But we do not want you to be uninformed, brethren, about those who are asleep, so that you will not grieve as do the rest who have no hope.

I. Christians are to live in anticipation, longing for the return of our Savior.

The man of faith sincerely longs to be with our Savior.

Philippians 1: 21-23 For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain. 22 But if I am to live on in the flesh, this will mean fruitful labor for me; and I do not know which to choose. 23 But I am hard-pressed from both directions, having the desire to depart and be with Christ, for that is very much better;

Philippians 3: 20-21 For our citizenship is in heaven, from which also we eagerly wait for a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ; 21 who will transform the body of our humble state into conformity with the body of His glory, ....

Romans 8: 18-19 For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory that is to be revealed to us. 19 For the anxious longing of the creation waits eagerly for the revealing of the sons of God.

When Christ comes our circumstances will radically improve.

II Timothy 4: 7-8 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith; 8  in the future there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day; and not only to me, but also to all who have loved His appearing.

... the dead in Christ will rise first ... II Corinthians 5: 2 For indeed in this house we groan, longing to be clothed with our dwelling from heaven, I Thessalonians 4: 16 ... the dead in Christ will rise first ... I Corinthians 15: 53 ... this mortal must put on immortality ...

I John 3: 2 Beloved, now we are children of God, and it has not appeared as yet what we will be. We know that when He appears, we will be like Him, because we will see Him just as He is.

John 14: 3 If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, there you may be also.

I Peter 1: 3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His great mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 to obtain an inheritance which is imperishable and undefiled and will not fade away, reserved in heaven for you,

I Thes 4: 17 Then we who are alive and remain will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we shall always be with the Lord.

Revelation 21: 4 and God Himself will be among them, 4 and He will wipe away every tear from their eyes; and there will no longer be any death; there will no longer be any mourning, or crying, or pain; the first things have passed away.”

encouraged to “hasten” ( How can we hasten His return? ) Is it any wonder we’re encouraged to “hasten” the day of His return. ( How can we hasten His return? )

II Peter 3: 11-12 Since all these things are to be destroyed in this way, what sort of people ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, 12 looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be destroyed by burning, and the elements will melt with intense heat!

II Timothy 4: 8 in the future there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day; and not only to me, but also to all who have loved His appearing

Bible ends with a prayer for the soon return of Christ. Revelation 22: 20 He who testifies to these things says, “Surely I am coming quickly.” Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus!

II. Jesus used the parable of the 10 virgins to teach us to stay ready for Him.

Chapters 24-25 are in answer to two questions asked by the disciples. Matthew 24: 3 As He was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to Him privately, saying, “Tell us, when will these things happen, and what will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age?”

Jesus did not give them any signs about the end of the age. Matthew 24: 36 But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father alone.

There’ll be no way to tell when God will bring judgment; it comes without warning.

His reason for this is to cause us to live expecting His return. Luke 12: 35-40 Be dressed in readiness, and keep your lamps lit. 36 Be like men who are waiting for their master when he returns from the wedding feast, so that they may immediately open the door to him when

Luke 12: 35-40 ... continued he comes and knocks. 37 Blessed are those slaves whom the master will find on the alert when he comes; truly I say to you, that he will gird himself to serve, and have them recline at the table, and will come up and wait on them. 38  Whether he comes in the second watch, or even in the third, and finds

Luke 12: 35-40 ... continued them so, blessed are those slaves. 39 But be sure of this, that if the head of the house had known at what hour the thief was coming, he would not have allowed his house to be broken into. 40 You too, be ready; for the Son of Man is coming at an hour that you do not expect.”

III. What does living in expectancy mean to your life ?

It means that one should establish a relationship, What does living expectantly mean ? It means that one should establish a relationship, a fellowship with Christ. I Thessalonians 4: 13-18 Only those who are in Christ will go to be with Him.

II Thessalonians 1: 7b-10a Lord Jesus will be revealed from heaven with His mighty angels in flaming fire, 8 dealing out retribution to those who do not know God and to those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus.

II Thessalonians 1: 7b-10a .. continued 9 These will pay the penalty of eternal destruction, away from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power, 10 when He comes to be glorified in His saints on that day, ...

It means one should never leave anything that disrupts What does living expectantly mean ? It means one should never leave anything that disrupts his fellowship with God. I John 1:7 – 2:2

allow ourselves to become What does living expectantly mean ? It means we must never allow ourselves to become unfruitful servants. Galatians 6: 9 Let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we will reap if we do not grow weary.

It means we should lead lives that are totally surrendered to God. What does living expectantly mean ? It means we should lead lives that are totally surrendered to God. Ephesians 5: 15-16 Therefore be careful how you walk, not as unwise men but as wise 16 making the most of your time, because the days are evil.

Luke 9: 23-24 And He was saying to them all, “If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross daily and follow Me. 24 “For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake, he is the one who will save it.

It means there is an urgency about proclaiming the gospel. What does living expectantly mean ? It means there is an urgency about proclaiming the gospel. John 14: 6

God exists outside time. 1000 yrs & 1 yr are the same to Him. What does living expectantly mean ? It means there is no guarantee of tomorrow. God exists outside time. 1000 yrs & 1 yr are the same to Him.

Jesus clearly stated the attitude He wants for us to have.

Mark 13: 33-37 Take heed, keep on the alert; for you do not know when the appointed time will come. 34 it is like a man away on a journey, who upon leaving his house and putting his slaves in charge, assigning to each one his task, also commanded the doorkeeper to stay on the alert. 35  Therefore, be on the

Mark 13: 33-37 ... continued alert — for you do not know when the master of the house is coming, whether in the evening, at midnight, or when the rooster crows, or in the morning—  36 in case he should come suddenly and find you asleep. 37 What I say to you I say to all, ‘Be on the alert!’ ”

Is it filled with expectation ? What is your attitude toward life ? Is it filled with expectation ?

If the Lord were to come today would you run to or from Him ? Are you “hastening the day” Do you “love His appearing” Are you praying He’ll “come”

As in the days of Noah, most people are wrapped up in daily living.

Are you ready to meet Him ? Jesus is coming ! Are you ready to meet Him ?
