Koala bear By, Thomas

Koala’s diet Koalas eat LEAVES, especially eucalyptus leaves. There are many kinds of eucalyptus leaves. Koalas will eat from only a few of these.

Koala’s babies A female koala carries her babies in her pouch for six months. When born they are naked, blind and earless. Also a baby is as small as a jelly bean. It’s born with good smell and strong front legs and good claws.

Koala’s habitat Eucalyptus forests in Australia and neighboring islands.

Koala’s physical characteristics The scientific name for the koala is Phascolarctos. Their fur is gray with white on their chest, and they have large funny ears and leathery noses. Their fur protects them from the hot and cold.

Interesting facts/special features A koala bear is not a bear. Koalas are marsupials, related to kangaroos. Koalas smell like cough drops because they eat eucalyptus.

Koala bear I chose the koala bear because I didn’t know a lot about the animal and I thought it was an interesting animal. I also thought the Koala was cute. It is one of my favorite animals too.
