AIM: What was life like in the Plymouth colony?

Early steps to colonization: Included present day Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine Created due to religious conflicts in England English church was too influenced by Catholic priests “Purer” kind of church—Puritans & Separatists

Challenges: 100 pilgrims sailed to the new world on the Mayflower (on their way to VA but blown off course) Harsh winter and weather conditions Squanto showed colonists how to grow corn

Mayflower Compact: agreement to obey all their government laws Politics: Mayflower Compact: agreement to obey all their government laws Pilgrims wanted to be self-governed***roots of democracy General court, which had a form of legislative and judicial power
