During the 2009—2010 school year, Jim Carroll, Trina Newton, & Binghamton City School District’s staffers wrote a successful New York State Learning Technology Grant (LTG)

Project LEGAL Created in 1976 by Director, Jim Carroll, Ph.D.

Project LEGAL New York State validation in 1979

Project LEGAL USDE validation in 1982, 1992 & 1996

Project LEGAL Has been implemented in thirty four states Hungary, Croatia, and the US Virgin Islands

Project LEGAL Since 1983, adoption schools in over 1500 school districts

Project LEGAL’s Validated Objectives Significant student growth in knowledge and comprehension of the U.S. Legal/Judicial System. Significant student growth in law-related problem-solving and critical thinking skills.

Transforming Teaching and Learning at Binghamton High School & West Middle School & East Middle School & Seton Catholic High School

Our Vision for Transforming Teaching and Learning Students learn by constructing their own knowledge through The Public Policy Analyst.

Our Vision for Transforming Teaching and Learning Teachers serve as co-learners, mentors, coaches and resources to engage students to use technologies to solve problems, think critically and answer their own questions.

Our Vision for Transforming Teaching and Learning Curriculum is restructured to engage students in solving real-world problems that relate to state standards. In-depth knowledge, analysis and application of major concepts are emphasized.

Our Vision for Transforming Teaching and Learning Classrooms have Internet connectivity and can collaborate on common problems.

Our Vision for Transforming Teaching and Learning Performance-based assessment of student products published on the world wide web; also, self-assessments and monitoring of progress toward improvement on state content standards.

Our Vision for Transforming Teaching and Learning Our website contains numerous applications, links, collaborations, and virtual reference desks that support research, analysis, problem solving and communications, and these electronic resources will expand under TIPS.

Year 1 of the Binghamton’s LTG took place in June 2010 19 teachers from BHS, EMS, WMS and Seton Catholic met for 2 days and each of them created a PPA WebQuest lesson plan for one or more of their classes The first cadre in Year 2 of the Binghamton LTG ran from Nov. 2010 through January 2011 7 teachers from BHS, EMS, WMS and Seton Catholic met for 2 days and each of them created a PPA WebQuest lesson plan and a PPA PowerPoint for one or more of their classes

After today’s workshop… There will be two more workshops Tuesday, March 8, 2011 (3:45-6:45) Saturday, March 26, 2011 (8:30-2:30)

After today’s workshop… You will be expected to develop a WebQuest that will be due by April 1& a PowerPoint that will be due April 8, 2011 Ongoing help from staff developers & directors in developing your WebQuest by e-mail, listserv & phone (toll free 888-443-4720)
