“We Must Know Him!” 1 Peter 1:22 – 2:3

A preacher went to visit a primary Bible School class A preacher went to visit a primary Bible School class. He asked the class, “Who broke down the walls of Jericho?”…

Knowledge of God’s Word, even amongst Christians is on the decline Knowledge of God’s Word, even amongst Christians is on the decline. There was a time when the Bible was the most read book in a home. Those times are no longer here…

John 13:34 “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.”

Romans 13:8 “Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for he who loves his fellowman has fulfilled the law.”

1 Thessalonians 4:9 “Now about brotherly love we do not need to write to you, for you yourselves have been taught by God to love each other.”

I John 3:11 “This is the message you heard from the beginning: We should love one another.”

as strangers in the world we must know Him by knowing His living Word Purpose: as strangers in the world we must know Him by knowing His living Word

I God’s Word HAS Life A. God’s Word is Never Archaic

Hebrews 4:12 “For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow, it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.”

I God’s Word HAS Life A. God’s Word is Never Archaic B. God’s Word is Invincible

“Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.” Matthew 24:35 “Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.”

Diocletian – Emperor of Rome ( A.D. 284 -305) Diocletian tried to destroy every copy of manuscripts (Scripture) that were to be found. He even built a monument over the burial of what he thought was the last manuscript to be found… Diocletian – Emperor of Rome ( A.D. 284 -305)

Voltaire (French philosopher) In the 1700’s he declared that in France 25 years removed from his death Christianity would be swept from earth. 40 years after Voltaire’s death, they were printing Bibles in the house where Voltaire lived! Voltaire (French philosopher)

Isaiah 55:10-11 “As the rain and snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, so is my word that goes out from my mouth. It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.”

II God’s Word GIVES Life A. God’s Word Reproduces Life

James 1:18 “He chose to give us birth through the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of all He created.”

John 5:24 “I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word and believes Him who sent Me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed from death to life.”

John 6:63 “The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you are spirit and they are life.”

II God’s Word GIVES Life A. God’s Word Reproduces Life B. God’s Word Gives Life to the Soul

III God’s Word FEEDS Life A. Crave the Word of God

1 Peter 2:2 “Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation.”

The Greek word (epitotew) literally means: “earnestly desire/love/long for”…

III God’s Word FEEDS Life A. Crave the Word of God B. Are You Craving God’s Word?

Jack Katz – founder/ceo Jack was a defensive lineman for the University of Florida Gators. He was the fastest lineman on the team. Every day at the end of practice, linemen lined up on one end of the field while running backs…

In his book The Wonder of the Word of God he tells of a man from Kansas City. At this man’s work there was an explosion. The man lost his sight, disfigured his face and both hands were blown off. This man was a new Christian. Of all the heartaches he now faced, one of them was he didn’t know how he was going to read the Bible… Robert Sumner

Summary and Conclusion What a great illustration of one who craved the Word. Reading about this man got me to thinking, if I were in his circumstances would I crave the Word of God to the point I would teach myself… Christians must be addicted to the Word of God. Why? Only then do you taste that the Lord is good…
