Landforms Social Studies: Unit 1

Plateau A large, flat, raised area of land

Desert An area that receives less than ten inches of rain in one year.

Cliff A steep face of rock and soil.

Valley- A low place between mountains

Mountain- A very high landform, often with steep sides

River- A large flowing body of water that usually empties into a sea or ocean

Bay-Part of a sea or lake that cuts into a coastline

Canyon- A deep valley with steep rocky walls.

Plain- An area of flat land that often is covered with grass or trees

Lake- A large body of water surrounded by land on ALL sides
