Woodbury Area Hockey Club 2017-2018 Volunteer Guide Penalty Box Penalty Box Duties Arrive early to help other volunteers with rosters, starting line-ups, testing microphones etc. Open the penalty area door for players at the start and expiration of a penalty Open the penalty area door for referees in between periods and after the game Identify the team and player number for penalties assessed Relay penalty information to announcer and official scorer. Make penalized players comfortable Help player look for team coach instructions for when the penalty expires (Should the player go to the bench?) For coincidental penalties (those assessed to each team at the same time) the game may be continued to be played as 5-on-5. Therefore, those players are not to return to the ice until the clock has stopped.
