Question-1 The above image shows one of the first housing types, ever, under construction in a contemporary context. * Describe the lifestyle of the occupants, the supply of materials, the construction method, the durability of the dwelling and the climate that is best suited to this kind of dwelling and this way of survival

Question 2 Yurts are one of the most successful and long lasting housing types in the history of housing. In a sketch, show the basic elements of this housing type; describe how it is adapted for its use in summer and winter, in different locations till this very day.

Question 3 Place des Vosges in Paris introduced a new method of urban renewal and urban development that found followers all over Europe. *Describe the basic idea, and describe some of the other schemes that were built based on this precedent.

Question-4 Adobe has been used throughout history, including today, as a building material, particularly for low cost housing. Explain the continuing popularity of this material, list some of its advantages and shortcomings, and, in a sketch and-or in a short description , describe some of the uses of the material.

Question-5 Two circles. One an aerial photo of an actual inhabited area, part of a city, the other a plan of a hypothetical community. *Who proposed the hypothetical plan? When? Where? *Discuss the differences between the actual city area and the hypothetical plan shown here.

Question 6 The architect Luis Sert used an ancient, non-western precedent for his house in Cambridge Mass. * What is the precedent he used, and give in some words and one or two sketches examples of this ancient type of housing.

Question 7 The big changes in society have brought about fundamental changes in the way people provided housing for themselves or the way societies provided housing for their people. Briefly (in a paragraph and-or a sketch) describe the housing of people living : 1. a nomadic life, 2. a sedentary, rural life, 3. life after the fall of the Roman empire, 4. life during the Renaissance, 5. life during the industrial revolution, 6. life in the US after the second World War.
