Rural Water Supply, Sanitation and Irrigation Program (RuWatSIP) Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Afghanistan Conference on Sanitation 2016 Rural Water Supply, Sanitation and Irrigation Program (RuWatSIP) Afghanistan First Conference on Sanitation /AFCOSAN-1 Session on : Safe Disposal and Reuse of Human Waste Lessons Learned and Way forward November 24th 2016Kabul

Lessons Learned : People know the economic importance of compost. People prefer compost as best soil dresser Piles of mixture of excreta , ash vegetable waste scattred nearby privies and offsite Due to the insufficient culturally accepted Sanitation Facilities lead to the unsightly environment in the city. SDG 6b will not be achieved unless we ensure human waste safe in the environment

Way forward Work with communities how to improve excreta management/ part of ACCLTS as well Build on the existing capacity Provide communities with composting facilities as lined pit nearby privies or in gardens Facilitate interface between farming communities and agriculture sector for excreta management SDG 6b will not be achieved unless we ensure human waste detoxified and fully compost and use it as fertilizer Sulahab to be replicated

After Pruning, Soil Dressing and Mulching Thanks
