Assessment Driven Managerial Development: Personalizing Micro Learning for Macro Results Charles A. Scherbaum, Ph.D. Rideau Recognition Solutions HRO Today Forum – EMEA November 7, 2018

Personalization is Common in Many Areas of Business We live in a world that is increasingly focused on personalization/customization/targeting of experience. Examples range from recommendations on Amazon to Spotify to Netflix. Marketing has heavily leverage personalization.

Personalization of Managerial Development However, there are limited examples of personalization in human capital It is possible to create personalized development for managers that is aimed at helping them improve their interaction with their employees Most experiences, particularly those that are developmental, are a one size fits all for the masses. Today, we will talk about how you can create personalized development for your managers that is aimed at helping them improve their interaction with and recognition of their employees.

What Does It Take To Personalize Managerial Development? Individual assessment Behaviorally focused micro learning connected to an assessment Learning design based on best practices from the learning sciences Evaluation of the developmental progress and implementation

Vistance® Prescriptive Algorithm Prescribed Learning Modules Post Learning Progress Checks Recognition Skills Assessment™ (RSA) So how do we improve manager RQ Scores? We do that by giving managers a short (10-15 minute) online recognition skills assessment. This now tells us their strengths and weaknesses in terms of dealing with people. Our prescriptive algorithm then prescribes short (5-10 minute) online learning modules that will be most beneficial to each manager. The modules are all built around recognition, motivation and engagement dimensions. The system includes strategies (learning assessments, goals setting etc.) to ensure true learning retention. All this is designed to improve the managers RQ score and our client’s business performance.
