Standard ACT-ADDI-1 Students will identify components related to the design process.
Bedrooms Usually about 1/3 of the house Typically found upstairs Quiet part of the house Heated from downstairs heat rising Grouping bedrooms together affords privacy Found on SE side of the house for morning light
Split Bedroom Plan Master bedroom on different floor Master bedroom is separate from remaining bedrooms for greater privacy
Spare/Kid Bedrooms Typically 9’ x 10’ (90 sq ft) Consists of a bed, night table and dresser
Master Bedrooms/Suites Typically 12’ x 14’ + closet area Consists of bed, sitting area, closet, and access to bathroom
Windows and Doors Windows: Doors Typically two windows in each bedroom Windows should not be placed where: A draft can blow across the bed Morning sunlight would shine directly on the bed Doors At least one entry door in each bedroom Should swing into the room Ideally located in the corner of the room
Closets Can include: rods, shelves, baskets, or drawers Typically in every bedroom Dimensions: Minimum width: Man: 4’ -- Woman: 6’ Minimum depth is 2’ Walk In Closet Dimensions: Minimum 6’ x 6’ Should be located along interior walls Acts as noise insulation between rooms Can include: rods, shelves, baskets, or drawers
