Ethos – appeal to credibility Focuses on convincing your audience that you are credible and they should listen to you. Get your reader on your side Can develop ethos using writing style/ grammar/ content. “We all want what’s best for America’s children…”
Pathos – Appeal to emotion Focuses on getting your audience to feel the way you want them to about your claim. Try to invoke sympathy, anger, humor, fear, or comfort. “Imagine a lonely child sitting sadly at lunch without a friend in the world.”
Logos – Appeal to logic/reason Focuses on convincing an audience using logic or reason. “42.7% (made that up) of America’s children report being bullied, which lowers text scores, and leaves the American education system trailing other countries”.
