Keeping Christ First Lesson 11

Theme The Lord Jesus should be the most important person to the believer.

I. Christ’s Preeminence Revealed Luke 9:28-31 A. Jesus took His “inner circle” of disciples (Peter, James, John) John (John 1:14) Peter (2 Peter 1:16-18)

I. Christ’s Preeminence Revealed B. While Jesus prayed, “the fashion of His countenance was altered” (Luke 9:29) 1. Not an altering of the essential nature of His human flesh 2. Revealing of His character as God through the veil of His human flesh

I. Christ’s Preeminence Revealed C. Moses & Elijah appeared 1. They too were glorified 2. We will be like him when we see Him (1 John 3:2)

II. Christ’s Preeminence Misunderstood Luke 9:32-33 A. Disciples sleeping - awake B. Peter - “Let’s build 3 tabernacles”

II. Christ’s Preeminence Misunderstood C. Peter was placing the Lord on an equal plane. The presence of Christ alone had not been enough to satisfy the three disciples.

III. Christ’s Preeminence Confirmed Luke 9:34-36 A. The Heavenly Father Himself directly intervened, a cloud appeared & engulfed them all.

III. Christ’s Preeminence Confirmed B. The Father spoke… 1. “This is my beloved Son” 2. “Listen to Him” C. After the memorable reproof the disciples saw only Jesus.
