Computer - Winlink Express Windows 10: If Winlink Express is to old to update then uninstall from Settings/Apps & features Download latest from ftp://autoupdate.winlink.org Under the folder “User Programs”

Winlink Passwords Confirm your current password still works, as of 2018 all Winlink passwords are now case sensitive. For security reasons you may want to change your password. All Winlink Client and Server software is affected Winlink Express, RMS Packet, RMS Trimode and RMS Relay You will need to change in each program and your Winlink Website account and Webmail.

Winlink Passwords Cont…. Internet is required to confirm your account is active go to the winlink.org and login. You can also change your password by going into “Password change”

Winlink Gateways (Packet/Pactor) Winlink.org under “Tools” they have RMS Map, RMS List and CMS Status so you can confirm if everything is online and reporting to Winlink. Note: this does not confirm that you will have a path a gateway.

Locating TNC Comports Open Device Manager and go to Port & LPT

Comports cont.. Using Airmail’s Dumb Terminal as a diagnostic tool. It is better than Winlink’s Simple Terminal

Comports cont.. Confirming the comport if it is right or wrong when connected to the TNC If you see 2 Red lights it means you are not on the right Com port.

Comports cont.. If you see 2 Green lights it means you are on the right Com port If you do not get a CMD: prompt you will need change the speed until you do.

Comports cont.. After changing to the right port/speed and cycling the power on the TNC you should see the initializing of the Kantronics TNC If not then you will need to do a Factory Reset.

Factory Reset Resetting the TNC will put it back to Factory Defaults. Follow the instructions in the screen shot or on the next slide

Factory Reset cont.. Remove the 2 side screws Locate J7 Reset Jumper and move the Berg block on to both pins. Start Airmail in Dumb Terminal and set the Comport and change the Speed to 1200 then turn on the TNC. CHECKSUM OK RAM OK  xxxxK BYTES CLOCK NOT PRESENT REPLACE TEST JUMPER Turn power off and move the Berg block back to one pin and turn back on. PRESS (*) TO SET BAUD RATE and Enter your callsign At the CMD: type INTFACE TERMINAL At the CMD: type ABAUD 9600 Change Dumb Terminal speed to 9600 Turn the TNC on and you should see the CMD: prompt.

TNC Reset cont.. Now turn the TNC on and you should see initialization of the Kantronics TNC. It is now back to Factory settings. You will also need to enter 17 commands after the reset.

TNC 17 Commands There are two ways to enter the 17 commands, Manually one by one. Or use Tera Term software and send the file that you created with your parameters. It will need to be loaded 3 time because of the 3 commands do a TNC restart.
