National Language Service: Focus and Activities Promotes multilingualism – development of policy and supporting implementation Offers Translation and Editing; Terminology Development and Management; Language Planning MAJOR ACTIVITIES Language Policy finalised and draft bill under discussion Implementation plan developed and circulated Innovation Projects e.g. TISSA; HLT Maths primary school dictionary complete; New projects – Natural Sciences, ICT, Medical Terminology; Collaborating committees based in the tertiary institutions; Grants transferred and contracts signed.

Translating official documents e. g Translating official documents e.g. Bills, Government Notices, Annual Reports, intergovernmental correspondence, bilateral / multilateral Agreements, etc. FOCUS Drive intensive language awareness campaigns and be visible at grassroots level, Parliament, Cabinet, Provincial legislatures all to adopt usage of African languages, Enhance language facilitation tools and services (language technologies etc),

Mobilise community involvement in language development activities (e.g. language development centres in each province), Expedite establishment of language units at national and provincial level; Better career opportunities for African Language Practitioners, supporting universities to attract more students (bursaries, scholarships, research and authorship), Specific interventions to enforce multilingualism in education and training, Closer cooperation with the national broadcaster in promoting multilingualism, Support initiatives to engage the private sector in the utilisation of African Languages.
