Fig 1 Preferred Reporting Items of Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses flow diagram. We identified 549 papers through searching the MEDLINE, Scopus, Embase, Web of Science, and Cochrane Library database. After duplicate papers were removed, 506 were screened, 492 were excluded based on their title or abstract, and 14 full-text articles were assessed for eligibility. One article was identified through searching reference lists of full-text articles assessed for eligibility. Ten articles were included in quantitative synthesis, and four articles were excluded. BIOLUX P-1, Paclitaxel-Releasing Balloon in Femoropopliteal Lesions Using a BTHC Excipient; DEB, drug-eluting balloon; DEBELLUM, Drug Eluting Balloon Evaluation for Lower Limb mUltilevel treatMent; FemPac, Inhibition of Restenosis in Femoropopliteal Arteries Paclitaxel-Coated Versus Uncoated Balloon: Femoral Paclitaxel Randomized Pilot Trial; LEVANT I, Lutonix Paclitaxel-Coated Balloon for the Prevention of Femoropopliteal Restenosis; LEVANT II, A Prospective, Multicenter, Registry of the Lutonix Drug Coated Balloon for Treatment of Femoropopliteal Arteries; PACIFIER, Paclitaxel-coated Balloons in Femoral Indication to Defeat Restenosis; IN PACT SFA I, Randomized Trial of IN.PACT Admiral Drug Eluting Balloon vs Standard PTA for the Treatment of SFA and Proximal Popliteal Arterial Disease. Fig 2 Meta-analysis comparing the outcomes of binary restenosis (BR) and late lumen loss (LLL) at 6 months between patients treated with drug-eluting balloons (DEBs) and percutaneous transluminal angioplasty (PTA). Forest plots demonstrate the odds ratios (ORs, black squares) and 95% confidence intervals (CI, gray lines) for the comparison of BR in patients treated with DEBs and PTA and the mean difference (M, black squares) with 95% CI (gray lines) for the comparison of LLL in patients treated with DEBs and PTA. The diamond represents the total OR or MD, respectively, calculated in this meta-analysis. Fig 3 Meta-analysis demonstrates the association of target lesion revascularization (TLR) in patients treated with drug-eluting balloons (DEBs) compared with percutaneous transluminal angioplasty (PTA) at 6, 12, and 24 months. The odds ratios (OR, black squares) with 95% confidence intervals (CI, gray lines) were calculated for each trial. The diamonds represent the total OR calculated in this meta-analysis. Supplementary Fig 1 (online only) Meta analysis comparing the outcomes of death and amputation at 6, 12, and 24 months between patients treated drug-eluting balloons (DEBs) and percutaneous transluminal angioplasty (PTA). Forest plot demonstrating odds ratios (OR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI; horizontal lines) for the comparison of death in patients treated with DEBs and PTA at 6, 12 and 24 months. The solid squares indicate the mean difference and are proportional to the weights used in the meta-analysis. The diamond represents the total OR calculated in this meta-analysis. Forest plot demonstrating mean difference (OR) with 95% CI (horizontal lines) for the comparison of amputation in patients treated with DEBs and PTA at 6, 12, and 24 months.
