Objectives Explain the functions of the lymphatic system and identify locations of the major lymphatic pathways. Explain how lymphatic circulation is maintained. Describe how tissue fluid and lymph form and explain. Explain the function of lymph. Describe a lymph node and its major functions. Distinguish between innate (nonspecific) and adaptive (specific) defenses.

Essential questions How does physical exercise affect lymphatic circulation? Explain. How does physical exercise affect lymphatic circulation? Explain How can the removal of enlarged lymph nodes for microscopic examination aid in diagnosing certain diseases? How do the functions of innate and adaptive defenses compare?
