General pathway of starch biosynthesis beginning with Suc as the product of photosynthesis. General pathway of starch biosynthesis beginning with Suc as the product of photosynthesis. Activities are as follows. 1, Suc synthase; 2, UDP-Glc pyrophosphorylase; 3, glycolytic enzymes including phosphoglucomutase; 4, ADPGlc pyrophosphorylase; 5, hexose phosphate transporters; 6, ADPGlc transporters. Not all plants possess both the indicated transporters and cytosolic ADPGlc pyrophosphorylase. Transport of Glc-1-P is depicted as a possible example and is not meant to imply that hexose phosphate transporters are necessarily specific for this molecule. Ap, Amylopectin; Am, amylose. Alan M.
