Finalize list of College/Universities – 4 to 6 Step 1 Finalize list of College/Universities – 4 to 6 (Remember to be selective and to keep in mind a “reality check”) Consider: College Visits (4 excused absences) Probe College Fair (September 18th @ 9:00-1200 am at Lanier Tech) LHS College Representative Visits (Passes in Counseling Office and list of colleges on website ) College Search Engines (BigFuture.org, GAFutures.org)

Visit College/University Website Step 2 Visit College/University Website Requirements to apply Deadlines for Application Deadlines for Scholarships & Financial Aid * * Financial Aid deadlines may have changed due to the FAFSA opening in October instead of January. Please check Financial Aid deadlines carefully!

Give complete, honest and well-thought out answers to the required questions.

Step 4 Register for SAT/ACT Check with colleges for the last test date they will accept for a specific application deadline Send SAT/ACT scores directly from the testing agency. They must arrive by the application deadline.

October/November Deadline. See counselor before selecting this option. Early Action: Early application that is non-binding with a deadline usually in October/November.

Submit a Transcript Request Step 6 Submit a Transcript Request Official Transcript (3 week turnaround required) Request online through the Counseling website $5.00 charge online for each transcript, unless it’s Common App/Coalition. For Common App/Coalition schools, you will pay the $5 fee ONE TIME to Ms. Hosier in the counseling office Counselor Evaluation/Letter of Rec (only if required) Provide at least 3-weeks notice Notify your counselor if an online form or letter is required

Step 7 Request Teacher Recommendation (only if required by the college/university) Please allow teachers ample time (3 weeks) to write your recommendation. Provide them with a copy of your Senior Brag Sheet/ Resume. Counselors can email them to your teacher upon request. Let the teacher know whether the application will be uploaded through Common Application, the College Website, or mailed. If the recommendation letter needs to be mailed, provide teacher with a stamped envelope, addressed with the corresponding school’s Office of Admission address.

Finally......ENJOY YOUR SENIOR YEAR! Maintain Grades – Mid-Year reports / Final Grades (Both Important). Search for and apply for Scholarships Students playing college athletics must register with the NCAA Clearinghouse.
