Manatees By: Jacob and Nasir

This story is dedicated to: Manatees to keep them safe

Manatees are known as the cows of the sea Manatees are known as the cows of the sea. They move slowly because they are big and fat. They can be 10 feet long. They can weigh 1000 pounds. Manatees have flippers, NO front teeth, Gray wrinkled skin and whiskers. They have a large tail too.

Manatees live in lakes and seas. They live in shallow warm water Manatees live in lakes and seas. They live in shallow warm water. They live in Virginia, Mississippi, Alabama, Louisiana and Florida. In the summer, they migrate to the north states.

Manatees are not predators. They are herbivores. They eat sea grass Manatees are not predators. They are herbivores. They eat sea grass. A manatee eats for 4 to 6 hours EVERY DAY! Their food grows in warm shallow water and since they don’t have to chase it, they move very slowly.

Manatees have adaptations that help them survive Manatees have adaptations that help them survive. They have a big tail that they use to move in the water. They have flat teeth for chewing. They are fat and can just float in the water without needing to move. They don’t have good eyes, so they use whiskers to help them find food.

A manatee baby is called a calf. They are born alive from their mothers. They are mammals so calves drink mother’s milk. Manatees travel in herds and stay together like families. They can live up to 60 years!

Manatees are peaceful and greedy. They are slow and don’t attack Manatees are peaceful and greedy. They are slow and don’t attack. They are greedy because they eat for 6 hours a day and get really fat!

We are like a manatee because we are gentle and playful.

We are not like manatees because Jacob is fast but they are not, and Nas is a trucker that likes to run into people in football. Manatees would not do that.

Meet the Authors! Hi My name is Jacob and I’m 8. I love to work out at my dad’s gym. I picked manatees because they are cute, playful and gentle like me. I hope you enjoyed our book! Hi my name is Nasir. I’m 8 years old too. I love to play football. I like manatees because they are so big different. Thank you for reading our book!
