• First practical method for asymmetric hydrocyantion of a 1,3-diene Asymmetric Hydrocyanation of 1,3-Dienes T. V. RajanBabu, Department of Chemistry, The Ohio State University (Org. Lett. 2006, 8, 4657) • Asymmetric synthesis using feed stock carbon sources could have major impact on how fine chemicals are synthesized and manufactured • First practical method for asymmetric hydrocyantion of a 1,3-diene • A new, highly selective protocol for Ni-catalyzed hydrocyanation of dienes reported • Low temperatures, high yields (71-95%) • High regioselectivity approaching 99% for several different dienes. • High enantioselectivity • Reactivity differences between these dienes illustrated • Generation of quaternary centers • Cyano derivatives are useful for the synthesis of amines, aldehydes and acids
