Blood Flow through Human Heart February 24, 2019 Blood Flow through Human Heart

Agenda Today we will travel through the chambers of the heart to understand how blood flows through the body Materials You Will Need: Copy of Human Heart sheet Red and blue colored pencil A smile 

Step 1: Label Your Structures Aortic arch Superior Vena Cava Pulmonary Trunk (Arteries) Pulmonary veins Left Atrium Pulmonary veins Tricks to Remember: Arteries = away Veins = into Right Atrium Tricks to Remember: Blood from body is blue Blood from lungs is red Left Ventricle Right Ventricle Dorsal Aorta Posterior Vena Cava

Step 2: How does blood come into the heart from body? 1. De-oxygenated blood moves from upper body through SVC & lower body through PVC 1 4 2. De-oxygenated blood moves into the Right Atrium 2 3. De-oxygenated blood gets into the Right Ventricle 4. De-oxygenated blood gets pumped into the Pulmonary Trunk (arteries) to go to the lungs 3

Step 3: How does blood come from the lungs into the heart & out to body? 5. Oxygenated blood moves from the lungs through Pulmonary veins 8 5 5 6 6. Oxygenated blood moves into the Left Atrium 7. Oxygenated blood gets pumped into the Left Ventricle 7 8. Oxygenated blood gets pumped into the Aorta to go to the body
