Homeostasis
Asis, osis, sis = state or condition Homeostasis Homo or homeo = same Asis, osis, sis = state or condition
Homeostasis Maintenance of constant conditions, or stable internal environment. (e.g. Team, 3 parts)
Receptor Receptors are sensitive to environmental changes, or stimulus.
Control Center Receives and processes information from the receptors.
Effectors Responds to the commands of the control center, opposes or enhances the stimulus.
Example: Heating your house via a thermostat.
When a stimulus makes the body change from homeostatic conditions, the body will respond. (Ex: Temp, blood lose)
Negative feedback Is when the body produces a stimulus that opposes the original stimulus.
Positive feedback Initial stimulus produces a response that reinforces the stimuli. Page 16
Electrolytes Compounds that dissolve into ions. (Ex. Salts. Alterations of these ions can disturb almost every vital function. Low K+ = muscular paralysis)
