Objective: Students will be able to make predictions about literature. Do Now: Answer both of the following questions below. 1.) Which independent novel did you choose and why? 2.) Based on the book cover and synopsis (summary) on the novel, what can you predict about your novel’s plot? *Show any owed HW.

Objective: Students will be able to make predictions about literature. Agenda Do Now: Turn and talk with your tablemates. Captains will share with the class. Work Period: Read the introductory pages (2-3 pages) of your chosen novel (one of the choices below). Answer the following questions: What’s the setting (time period and location)? Who are the main characters? How are the main characters characterized (described in physical appearance, personality, actions, and thoughts/feelings)? What conflicts exist? What kind of journey can you predict the characters will experience? -How the Garcia Girls Lost Their Accents -Chinese Cinderella -Finding Miracles -Enrique’s Journey Reflections: What can you predict will happen next in your chosen novel?
