Wednesday 5/17/17 Notebook Entry: Today I am going to ask you to identify patterns in the solar system data you have been collecting. Why would identifying patterns be helpful to understanding our solar system?

Noticing patterns is often a first step to organizing phenomena and asking scientific questions about why and how the patterns occur.

Patterns in the data?

You have done this before!

Explanations Patterns Experiences

Finish Research Finish the research you started Monday. Use your textbook and/or go to NASA resources for additional research. NASA resources are linked on my webpage under MONDAY!!! Group with quantitative data will need to create graphs to identify patterns. If you finish early there are magazines on the table to read.

Patterns in the Data: Questions to ask yourself Are there certain groups with similar characteristics?  Does there seem to be a link or connection between the sets of data we collected?  How I can clearly describe the pattern I see so that someone else not looking at the data can understand the pattern?

Exit Ticket Describe one pattern your group identified. Give a possible explanation for why this pattern occurs in space.
