The Era of Romanticism The largest artistic and philosophical movement of the late 1700s. Influenced by the American and French Revolutions during the time period. Romantics were involved politically and socially, but distanced themselves from the public at the same time. This was because they interpreted things through their emotions, so they were sometimes subject to oppression.

Poetic Techniques Odes were used by Romantic poets to convey their views and attitudes. Emphasized intuition and feeling over reason. Romantics were bold with their writing and did not restrain themselves. Used Myths and Symbolism. Attentive to Nature. The poem’s “speaker” was less of a persona, but a direct person of the poet; the Poet’s soul. Romantic poets valued: Individualism Freedom The natural world Human emotion and imagination Idealism
