Lesson Planning Wednesday, October 7th

What is Lesson Plan?

What is Lesson Plan? A lesson plan is a detailed schedule for a specific class on a specific day that follows S.M.A.R.T. Objectives.

Discussion Why should we lesson plan? What makes a good lesson plan? Can you make a bad lesson plan? How?

Discussion Even if you’re an experienced teacher we should always lesson plan because it allows us to get the most out of each class, build on each previous class, and improve already made lesson plans. A good lesson plan should have: A detailed time schedule Build on the last lesson Have back-up activities Follow S.M.A.R.T. objectives. A bad lesson plan could be….

S.M.A.R.T. Objectives

S.M.A.R.T. Objectives S - specific M - measurable A - attainable R - relevant T - time-based

Make a Lesson Plan Situation: Tomorrow is your 8th grade class 30 students 40 minute lesson

5 Minutes: Ts will check HW and introduce topic 5 Minutes: Ts will review previous lesson topic and check comprehension with call and response with Ss 10 Minutes: Ts will write “Things to do with friends” from 13A in center of chalkboard then ask Ss what they do with their friends. Use Ss suggestions to create a mind map. Fill in missing lines with vocabulary from book. 5 Minutes: Ts will explain terms and practice pronunciation. 10 Minutes: If Ss have demonstrated comprehension, have them write one sentence for each term using like, prefer, or enjoy. Exercise 13B. 5 Minutes: Exercise 13C. Have Ss pair up and discuss what they like doing with their friends using terms and sentences from lesson. Example “I like to play cards with my friends. I prefer playing games with friends. I enjoy watching movies with friends. Homework - Ss will ask parents what they like doing with their friends.

Conclusion They are one of the most useful tools a teacher can use and are essential to have a successful academic year Lesson plans should be clear, concise, and RELEVANT
