Manasseh King of Judah 2 Kings 21:1-16 2 Chronicles 33:10-19

Manasseh’s Advantages He was an Israelite (Rom 3:1-2), when the nation was faithful to God. He had a godly father: Hezekiah (2 Kings 18:3). He had access to a faithful prophet of God: Isaiah.

Manasseh’s Choices He gave over completely to evil (2 Kings 21:2-16). He worshipped Assyrian idol gods (3). He desecrated the temple of God (4-5). He killed his own sons (6). He disdained the word of God (7-8). He led his nation into sin (9). He hated instruction & rebuke (10-16).

Manasseh’s Fall & Repentance As He promised, God punished Manasseh (2 Chron 33:10-11). Manasseh made a genuine gesture of repentance (2 Chron 33:12-13).

Manasseh’s Consequences He could not… restore life to the dead. restore his nation (2 Chron 33:17). restore his family (33:21-23). restore his name (33:18-19). avert national destruction (Jer 15:1-4)

There will be consequences…. Exodus 34:6-7 – And the Lord passed before him and proclaimed, "The Lord, the Lord God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abounding in goodness and truth, 7 keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, by no means clearing the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children and the children's children to the third and the fourth generation."
