Food, Glorious Food – Year 2 Homework Project – Due in Friday 8th December Starters Main Courses Desserts Make a model of an allotment: Use a shoe box to create a model of an allotment similar to the one we visited in Wilsden a few weeks ago. Your allotment may have different patches belonging to different people and you may make small vegetables growing in rows. You may also include trees, benches, sheds and people. You could use felt, tissue paper, card, paper or anything else you have at home! Reading – Please ensure that you spend the equivalent of 15 minutes a day, reading your school reading book and other suitable books of your own choice. We can change these every day in school. You must put your book in the changing box so that we can change it. Create fact files: Research and find out about different fruits and vegetables. You could find out: Where is it grown in the world? How does it grow? How long does it take to grow? How is it picked / dug up? What can the fruit / vegetable be used for? What other fruits or vegetables is it similar to? After you have researched, you can present your findings out with facts, maps, drawings, photographs, pictures, headings, paragraphs etc. Research: How many types of one kind of fruit are there? E.g. How many different varieties of apple are there? Find out about some world record breaking fruits and vegetables. E.g, What is the longest carrot that has ever grown? What is the heaviest marrow that has ever grown? Draw, paint or make: A collage of your favourite fruits / vegetables. A painting or drawing of your favourite fruit / vegetable. A drawing of your fruit basket at home (hopefully full!) Create a map: Use a map of the world to show where different fruits and vegetables are grown. You might use a colour coded or picture key to show where they grow. Number Zumba – Please ensure that you spend the equivalent of 10 minutes a day practicing your rapid recall facts for your test on a Friday. Write a story: We have all studied the story of James and the Giant Peach. Write a similar exciting fantasy story about a magical fruit, using everything we have learnt about in school: Capital letters and full stops Commas Adjectives Paragraphs Time phrases Go food shopping with your family: Prepare a shopping list with your family and hi-light all the fruits and vegetables you need to buy. Visit the shop and take your list with you. Add up the prices of different fruits / vegetables and create calculations to show how much different things cost. E.g. tomatoes 98p + bananas 73p = £1.71. You may then work out your total spend and the change you receive from the amount you pay with. You could use your receipt to work out your calculations. Spellings – Please ensure that you spend the equivalent of 10 minutes a day practicing your spellings for your weekly test on a Friday
