Question Words unit 4

The Problem There are times when people will need to ask you questions. There are times when you will need to ask questions. ¿Cómo vas a entender si no sabes las palabras correctas? How will you understand if you don’t know the right words?????????????

The Solution Question words are some of the most important things to learn. They will help you get by in a foreign country. They will help you understand. They will help you learn more.

The Basics Who? ¿Quién? What? ¿Qué? When? ¿Cuándo? Where? ¿Dónde? Why? ¿Por qué?

More question words How? ¿Cómo? Where from? ¿De dónde? Where to? ¿Adónde? How many? ¿Cuántos(as)? Which? ¿Cuál?

What’s up with the inverted question mark? In Spanish, the inverted question mark ¿ lets you know that you are about to read a question. It goes at the beginning of a question. The question ends with the regular ?. Example: ¿Qué te gusta?

Sentence structure For questions, the sentence structure is mostly always the same. The verb goes before the noun. Ex. ¿Qué bebe Amelia? ¿Adónde van los chicos?

Sentence Structures Cont. For simple (yes or no) questions, you can just use your voice to indicate that the sentence is a question. Ex. ¿Miguel come pizza? ¿Come Miguel pizza? Miguel come pizza, ¿verdad? These three mean the same thing.

Why do some have accents? The accents tell us which vowel has the emphasis when speaking. For example, cómo tells us that the emphasis when speaking should be on the first o not the second. All question words have accents.

Do I haaaave to write the accents? YES YES YES. The accent is part of the spelling for the word. If you do not write it, then you are spelling it incorrectly. Also, some of these words change meaning when the accents are absent. For example, cómo means how and como means I eat.
