Guiding Questions Are all jobs in an economy the same? Is there a connection to the types of jobs in a country and that country’s level of development?
THE 4 LEVELS OF ECONOMIC ACTIVITY PRIMARY LEVEL- gathering natural resources or raw materials from the Earth (ex: farming, timber, fishing, mining…) Blue Bell- Milking the cow and growing the sugar cane
The 4 LEVELS OF INDUSTRY- ECONOMIC ACTIVITIES SECONDARY LEVEL- changing primary/raw materials into usable products (manufacturing) More developed countries have a well established industrial base. May show a switch from less developed to newly industrialized nation. Blue Bell- Making ice cream at the creamery or manufacturing plant

How does a country’s level of economic activity affect their level of development? Less Developed Most jobs will be in the primary level Newly Industrialized Transition into the secondary industry, maybe some tertiary More Developed Most jobs in tertiary and quaternary
(ex: Made by American companies) Other terms to know: Gross National Product (GNP)- total value of goods and services produced BY a country in a year. (ex: Made by American companies) Infrastructure- roads, bridges, power plants, transportation facilities, etc. which are needed to build industry and move goods and services. Gross Domestic Product (GDP)- total value of goods and services produced IN a country in a year. (ex: Made in America)
