Quiz Wednesday January 26, 2015 Warm Up: Complete flashcards using the template. Define and add examples. Today’s Goal: Unpack Unit 3 January 26, 2015 Why is it important to learn about genocide? How can one person make a difference? Quiz Wednesday

Unit 3 Overview: Predict The world has dark pages in its history, and at times the challenge of righting such immeasurable wrongs seems impossible. Reading narratives about the Holocaust and other genocides will reveal the worst in human behavior, but it will also show how individuals can find light in the darkness. In this unit, you will present the voices of fictional or real people who fought the darkness by helping, hoping, or persevering. You will also apply the lessons of the past to start making a difference today by raising awareness and encouraging people to take action about a significant national or global issue.

Finding Light in The Darkness What do you notice about this art? How do you think the arts (artwork, music, literature) can help change the world?

Today’s Goal: Review unit test Test Taking Strategies Warm Up: Read the article. On a new page in your notebook, write a one-paragraph summary. Give it a title. POST to Biblionasium January 29, 2015 How can we test smarter and faster? Today’s Goal: Review unit test Test Taking Strategies

Summary This article by Michael Bergen says that the most often used and told test strategies are ineffective and may hurt your grade. The, “When in doubt choose C” and the “Make anything up on the essay” have been proven wrong. Instead of these test strategies they encourage you to write a summery of any passage read. Also they encourage you to re-read questions that you aren’t sure on. Finally they recommend you to create practice tests to recreate the pressure of the environment and the time limit given. I think I speak for everyone that these results are surprising and will change the way I take test.

Strategies Read all answer choices Read the question, then the passage Look for negative words in questions Summarize the passage Look for the main idea in the opening and ending paragraphs Reconsider your answers by asking, “Why is this answer correct?”

Review your test In a group of three, use the above strategies to review your answers for one of the four passages. Read all answer choices Read the questions, then the passage Look for negative words in questions Summarize the passage Look for the main idea in the opening and ending paragraphs Reconsider your answers by asking, “Why is this answer correct?”
